NWCSA Membership
Since 1927, Northwestern Connecticut Sportsmen’s Association has been a gathering place for people to share their interest in shooting sports, conservation, and outdoor activities.
The following information provides an overview of the process, with answers to our most commonly asked questions. Current fees, dues and mailing instructions, are listed on the Membership Application – bottom of the page.
EXPECTATIONS
We ask that members be committed to the long-term success of the NWCSA, the enjoyment of Firearms, Shooting Sports and Natural Resource Conservation.
You must be prepared to support the club in its efforts to encourage, educate, and advance public awareness of safe, responsible Sportsmanship.
Safety is the #1 priority!
Members, Member Guests, and public event Participants are equally expected to understand and follow NWCSA Rules, as well as, all state and federal regulations. We consider the signature on a NWCSA Release of Liability Waiver, an acknowledgment of this understanding, so please clarify any questions, before entering the property.
NWCSA welcomes novice and experienced shooters alike, and responsible individuals help us ensure a safe, enjoyable experience for everyone.
You must complete approved work time, each year, by August 31st:
- 1st year members = 10hrs
- Subsequent year members = 5hrs
Requirements can be met by:
- Participating in scheduled work parties and/or
- Assisting in the success of our Events
Members are assessed a payment penalty for not meeting their work requirement.
APPLICATION
Each year, the NWCSA Board of Directors reviews total membership without concern for race, creed, gender or religious belief, to determine how many prospective members receive an invitation to join.
In keeping with our mission to introduce more women and youth to shooting sports, we especially encourage these applications.
Please note:
- Prospective members require at least one current NWCSA Member in Good Standing to Sponsor membership
- We strongly suggest submissions prior to October 31st to be included in our November/December member meetings
In addition to your personal information, here’s what you’ll need to complete the NWCSA Membership Application:
- Background information
- Member sponsor(s)
- Active NRA Membership ID
- Application fee
The NWCSA Membership Committee receives applications and reviews them for accuracy and completeness.
Vetted applications are submitted to the NWCSA Board of Directors, where a final review matches applicants to available slots.
Membership is granted with Board approval.
INVITATION
Congratulations!
Receiving an invitation sets you on a direct path to membership. Read it thoroughly – it details important next steps.
ACCEPTANCE
A lot can happen in the time between Application and Invitation, so to confirm your interest, we ‘officially’ complete the process when you:
- Attend a Member ‘Vote-In’ Meeting and
- Remit your 1st year Dues and Assessment
ORIENTATION
Once your Vote-In is confirmed and your Payment is received, you are required to attend a Club Orientation – a full day session covering NWCSA Rules, general information, plus, a walking tour of the Facilities.
This must be done within 60 days of your vote-in!
The invitation will list a few date options, typically within 1-3 weeks of your Vote-In meeting. You will be notified if a date is cancelled/rescheduled.
Important: If you are not able to attend any of the scheduled Orientations, it is your responsibility to inform the Members Committee to make alternate arrangements.
PROBATION
All new members are placed on a 90-day Probation starting from the date you successfully complete your Orientation.
During this time, you are welcome to enjoy NWCSA amenities with other Members, however…
You Can Not Sponsor Any Guests during your probation!
Once you complete your probation, in good standing, guests are welcome per Club Rules.
