Junior Marksmanship & Safety Clinic
The Junior Marksmanship & Safety Clinic will be held at the Northwestern CT Sportsman’s Association on Rt. 44 in Colebrook. The program runs for five weeks in the summer on June 18th, June 25th, July 9th, July 16th, and July 23rd on Thursday evenings, starting at 5:30.
The program is for youths ages 10 thru 16. Parents are requested to accompany their children. Clinics are held at the association’s rifle range facility.
Certified shooting instructors will be on hand to show the youngsters how to safely handle, load and shoot .22 caliber target rifles. Youngsters do not have to have any prior shooting experience.
Instruction and use of all firearms, ammunition and safety equipment are provided free of charge by the association.
Some of the topics covered over the five-week clinics are: range & firearms safety, shooting positions (standing, sitting & prone), controlled breathing, firearm cleaning & storage.
This program was designed as an introduction into the shooting sports and to give the youngsters an enjoyable shooting experience while teaching them to be a disciplined & responsible shooter. Participants do not have to attend every clinic.
