SUMMARY:IDPA Match
DESCRIPTION:The International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) was founded in 1996 with the goal of creating an action shooting competition based upon the realistic use of handguns for personal defense. IDPA offers an exciting forum for practical shooters in which truly practical equipment\, techniques and courses of fire are mandated. Prior to IDPA\, there was no place to compete with common service pistols. There were no shooting sports where your concealed carry handgun could also be your match handgun without handicap. \nIDPA matches at NWCSA usually consist of 6-7 different courses of fire (stages) where you will shoot about 100 rounds of service ammo (9mm/.38cal min). Shooters are timed and coupled with accuracy of fire a score will be assigned. There are no awards or cash prizes. Shooters attend an IDPA match to learn and improve their skills in a safe and friendly environment. \nIf you have never shot an Action Pistol type competition and would like to learn more we offer a no cost 2-3 hour workshop that will cover everything you need to know to be ready for your first match. If interested\, please contact ap@nwcsa.org. \nSafety brief\, pledge\, and walk through of first stages begins 8:45AM. \nPlease arrive 45-60 min before match start time to register and gear up. \nPlease note that pre-registration and payment is required on Practiscore.

SUMMARY:Project Appleseed | 25M Rifle Marksmanship Clinic
DESCRIPTION:Description \nThe traditional 25M Rifle Marksmanship clinic is Project Appleseed’s most popular. Led by experienced instructors\, you will learn the fundamentals of rifle marksmanship. You will develop the skills needed to hit your targets consistently with precision and accuracy. Our lessons include topics of rock-solid positions\, sling use\, effective dry fire\, efficient sight adjustments\, and more! \nThis program teaches the rifle marksmanship skills that were once commonly practiced in America. Our instructors teach the skills that will one day allow a Rifleman to be accurate out to 500 yards. This distance is known as the traditional “Rifleman’s Quarter Mile” and has been part of America’s marksmanship repertoire since our country’s earliest days. \nDuring breaks\, you will hear true stories about the day the American Revolution began and changed the course of history. Learn about some of the real men and women that lived during those times and their unflinching bravery they showed fighting for the freedoms they held so dear. These stories will change the way you view marksmanship and liberty. \nWhether you’ve never fired a rifle or you’re an experienced competitive shooter\, no one comes to a Project Appleseed event and leaves the same. Join us for marksmanship and history\, learn new skills\, make new friends and be a part of an inspiring and life-changing event. \nClinic Details \nEligible Participants: Public\nRange Fee: Members; $0\, Non-Members; $10 \nFor information about how to prepare\, download the Rifle Marksmanship Guide \nA Parent or Guardian must be present to sign the youth Liability Waiver and help their child during the clinic \nAbout Project Appleseed \nProject Appleseed is a national non-profit program that teaches the fundamentals of rifle and pistol marksmanship combined with the storytelling of American Revolutionary War history. Our events are family friendly and designed for all ages and experience levels. Read more on the Project Appleseed Website \n\n*Northwestern Connecticut Sportsman’s Association is committed to promoting firearms safety and the enjoyment of Shooting Sports. This clinic teaches the rifle marksmanship skills once common practice in America.

SUMMARY:Rifle Silhouette Match | 'Buffalo and Bucket' + Handgun
DESCRIPTION:Classes: Rifle and Handgun \nBullets must be Cast LEAD only\, no jacketed or half jacket bullets. Powder can be smokeless or blackpowder. \nThe Buffalo silhouette match is typically shot first. The Buffalo is about 4 ft long and 2 ft tall. Competitors are given unlimited sighter shots\, either from the bench or standing\, to verify windage and elevation. \nAfter the sighters\, the shots for record commence\, all from the offhand or standing position. \nEach competitor comes to the line\, and for the first elimination gets 3 shots maximum to hit the silhouette target. If he/she hits the target in 3 tries or less\, they continue to the next elimination. If they do not hit the target in the first 3 shots\, they are disqualified and are out. \nNext\, the remaining shooters get a maximum of 2 shots to hit the target. If they hit the target they move on\, otherwise they are out. \nFinally\, the last remaining shooters are allowed a maximum of one shot to hit the target. If they hit it\, they move on to the next elimination and the last person to hit the target with a single shot WINS. There is one winner in the Scoped Rifle category and one winner in the Iron Sight category. \nAfter the Buffalo Match\, that metal silhouette is taken down and replaced by a ‘Quigley Bucket’ target. This match follows the same course of fire. The bucket is an almost-square piece of steel plate about 18” wide and 20” high\, hanging from chains in the same metal frame. \nStarts out at 3 shots and down to last shooters at 1 shot each until there is only 1 winner.

SUMMARY:GPA Match
DESCRIPTION:This is a Galactic Pistol Alliance (GPA) match. GPA is very similar to IDPA but operates under a different (and relaxed) set of rules.  Notable differences are: \n\n24 rounds maximum per stage\nCarry as many mags as desired\nOne mandatory reload per stage – you decide when and where\nTargets may be required to be shot while moving\nNo tactical priority while shooting in the open\nDrop a loaded mag with no penalty\nUnlimited steel targets\nUnlimited non-threats\nNo cover garment\n½ second scoring\n\nThe biggest difference is in the shooter classification system. Stages have a PAR time\, and you are ‘graded’ on how you stacked up against your fellow competitors. Your classification can be adjusted up/down depending on your performance match to match. \nGPA FAQ’s \nComplete GPA rule book can be found here. \nGPA matches at NWCSA usually consist of 6-7 different courses of fire (stages) where you will shoot about 150 rounds of service ammo (9mm/.38cal min). Shooters are timed and coupled with accuracy of fire a score will be assigned. There are no awards or cash prizes. Shooters attend a GPA match to learn and improve their skills in a safe and friendly environment. \nSafety brief\, pledge\, and walk through of first stages begins 8:45AM. \nPlease arrive 45-60 min before match start time to register and gear up. \nPlease note that pre-registration and payment is required on Practiscore. \nIf you have never shot an Action Pistol type competition and would like to learn more we offer a no cost 2-3 hour workshop that will cover everything you need to know to be ready for your first match.
